Statement of Principles

The aims are:
  • to provide a positive environment in which learning is valued

  • to raise self esteem through constant encouragement and praise

  • to provide a curriculum for disaffected learners

  • to provide a detailed individual education plan

The School

The centre provides:

  • academic and vocational education 25hrs per week,
    50.5 weeks per year
  • a teaching group with a maximum of 6 pupils
  • 1:1 tuition in all curricular areas where necessary
  • SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) an intensive careers education programme
  • community involvement

Crime Avoidance

All children have individual anti-offending programmes, based on an assessment of their antecedent criminality.



Domestic Training

Children are required to learn basic living and social skills, which include:
  • personal health, cleanliness and hygiene.

  • cooking, meal preparation, budgeting and washing up.

  • keeping their bedroom tidy (hoovering and dusting etc.)

Social Activities

After formal education has finished on weekdays, children enjoy 2 hours constructive leisure time. They also pursue hobbies, sport or special projects during weekends. Available activities are all planned, purposeful, relevant and are appropriate to their age, understanding and abilities.



Community Involvement

Professionals, community groups and other individuals are encouraged to join individual or group discussions on topics of interest. Volunteers are vetted prior to visiting.
