  The Recruitment Process

The recruitment process is made up of a number of different steps:

- Each advertisement will include a dedicated recruitment number, which you are invited to call.
- We will conduct a short telephone interview with you and, if we both agree to take the application further, we   will send you an application pack.
- All returned application forms are reviewed daily and suitable candidates are invited to an Assessment Day,   which is made up of an interview, job simulation  exercises and some tests.
- If you successfully pass the Assessment Day, then you will be invited to attend a medical and we will   commence the security and vetting process.

Assessments and selection of staff follow the principles and recommendations of ‘the Report of the Committee of Inquiry into the selection, development and management of staff in children’s homes, 1992 – Choosing with Care’.

Operational staff undertake a 7-week training programme, endorsed by the Youth Justice Board, which includes a variety of modules relating to working with challenging young people.   Staff do not have access to young people until they have successfully completed the screening and security processes, passed all elements of the training programme and are certificated by the Youth Justice Board to work with young people within a Secure Training Centre.

Care staff undertake a 7-week training programme, which includes modules relating to working with challenging young people, safeguarding, anti-bullying, etc.  Staff do not have access to young people until they have successfully completed full security screening, are in possession of an enhanced CRB and have successfully passed all elements of the training programme.

Staff working in our Children's Homes also complete an induction pack during their probationary period from the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC) which aims to improve the lives of children and young people.  They then undertake NVQ3 in Health and Social Care Children and Young People.
